RSSOwl is a cool RSS reader application. For those of you who don’t know what an RSS reader is, here is an explanation.

What is an RSS reader? First of all, RSS (Wikipedia Article) is a format that shows regular updates from blogs, news sites etc in a standard format, so that you can easily keep up to date with all the latest information. An RSS reader is a program that collects these RSS “feeds” for you and manages them, all in one place. This means you can read your favourite blogs, with all their latest posts, all in one program!

The logo below is the standard image for RSS, so if you see a blog with this logo (such as StuffToGet.net in the top right-hand corner), it should have a feed you can subscribe to!

About RSSOwl - This is a lightweight, free and easy-to-use RSS reader. It will help you collect all your favourite RSS feeds, like the StuffToGet blog feed, all in one place. Not only can you read the articles but it’s also easy to search, sort and save them. It will automatically keep your feeds up-to-date, so you’ll always be able to read the latest headlines and posts and it’s available on most operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and more!

As far as finding blogs, you can use the in-built search function to find other blogs on your favourite topics and subscribe to them, as well as adding your current favourite blogs to RSSOwl from within your browser, just look for the RSS logo on most blogs. If you are using Firefox, you can look in the URL bar, on the right-hand side a small RSS logo will appear if a blog has a feed available, just click on this and you are on your way!

  1. I’ve been using Google Reader ever since the dawn of time. It would just be too much of a pain to move :(
